Portal Game World – Valve has officially introduced “Deadlock,” their latest gaming endeavor that merges various popular multiplayer game genres. The announcement was made quietly, following a series of extensive leaks about the game in recent months.
Since May 2024, “Deadlock” has been one of Valve’s worst-kept secrets. The company initially released an invite-only alpha version on Steam, with testers instructed not to disclose any details about the game. Despite this, the fact that each tester could invite an unlimited number of people led to widespread leaks.
On Friday, August 23, Valve officially confirmed the game’s existence by launching its Steam page late in the evening ET. The listing provides limited information, noting that “Deadlock” is a multiplayer title still in its early development stages. The game currently features placeholder art and experimental gameplay. The page does not specify detailed PC system requirements, only mentioning that the game requires a 64-bit CPU and operating system. Previous reports indicate that “Deadlock” is compatible with both Windows and the Steam Deck, which operates on the SteamOS 3.0 Linux distribution.

Although the Steam page lacks gameplay screenshots, it includes a brief 22-second video teaser rendered in the Source 2 engine. The video offers a glimpse of the game’s sole map, showing background characters running across a street and a character, smoking a cigarette, leaning against the wall of a “Third Eye Supply” shop. This character, resembling a detective, is not listed among the 19 heroes revealed in recent leaks, suggesting he may not be a playable character at this time.
Despite its third-person perspective, “Deadlock” is more aligned with traditional MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) mechanics than a hero shooter. The game features large maps where two teams of six players compete to control checkpoints by guiding minions through four lanes, dismantling enemy defenses, and purchasing upgrades. While precise aiming is beneficial, the game emphasizes strategy over reflexes, with substantial health pools and various ways to enhance durability. Matches typically last around 30 minutes.
