Garena announced in a press release on Monday (August 5, 2024) that it will hold the GYC 2024 Free Fire tournament in various cities. Offering Rp 275 million in educational funds and Rp 17 billion in scholarships. The GYC Free Fire is part of Garena’s “Garena Goes to School” (GGTS) initiative, which began in 2017. Last year, the competition took place in 72 cities, and this year it has expanded to 82 cities.
“With the goal of balancing education and esports, GYC 2024 Free Fire includes specific academic requirements for all participants,” Garena stated in the press release.
Similar to previous years, participants must have an average report card score of at least 65 to compete. This initiative encourages students to excel both in esports and academics. The esports tournament will kick off with City Qualifiers from August 19 to October 19, 2024. Each week, GYC 2024 Free Fire matches will be held offline in 13 to 14 cities, with various schools hosting the events.
The competition will visit cities such as Deli Serdang, Padang, Semarang, Nganjuk, Pontianak, Singkawang, Bima, Ternate, Makassar, Manado, and Jayapura. The top Free Fire teams from each City Qualifier will advance to the Region Qualifiers. Scheduled from November 5 to 28, 2024. During this stage, the best teams from several cities will compete in 12 regions spanning Sumatra to Papua and Maluku. This stage is crucial for each school team, as only one team from each region will progress to the Grand Finals, which will be held in Jakarta in December 2024.

Meanwhile, the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) Indonesia 2024 Fall has concluded with Bigetron Delta emerging victorious. With this win, Bigetron Delta will represent Indonesia as the fifth team at the FFWS Southeast Asia (SEA) 2024 Fall.
